It appears to take at least 3 years of regularly applying this approach to real-world, day-to-day situations in order for the learning to become embedded in the participant – and, for the organization and community to systemically and sustainably benefit from having these learnings be operationalized within their contexts.  However, if after the first year it is no longer appropriate for a participant to continue in Leading by Design – for whatever reason - then, so be it.  Also, there is no maximum length of participation.  As long as benefits exceed the cost, participation may be continued.
