7. How much time does this participation take? <Return to table of contents All participants take part in three distinct forms of inquiry. Firstly, each participant has extensive discussions with Dr. Ruga – these are the basis of the interviews. These discussions with Dr. Ruga consist of 24 hours over the course of a year. Generally, every 4 – 6 weeks, a telephone call is scheduled for about 2 hours. However, the way that the time is used is entirely flexible: it can be used for on-site workshops; longer and more intensive discussions; or for consultations on specific projects. Secondly, each participant engages in their own personal reflexive practice. This practice is documented in their case study accounts – which is the basis for the diary writing. Thirdly, each active participant engages with the entire group in a Learning Collaborative. The Learning Collaborative is scheduled in consultation with the entire group. The first one was held at Harvard University, in May 2006, for 3 days. The second one was held in London, in late February 2008, for 4 days. The third and fourth were held in San Diego in February 2009 and 2010, each for 4 days. The fifth will be held in Waterford, Ireland in May 2011 for 4 days. The Learning Collaborative is the basis for the focus group meetings.
