1. Background: What is Leading by Design?
<Return to table of contents

The CARITAS Project is a US-based non-profit organization, working internationally, to pioneer the next generation of improvements in health and healthcare delivery through innovative design of the environment.  Leading by Design, the third project of The CARITAS Project, is a bold experiment to discover,  operationalize, document, and disseminate those practices that both systemically and sustainably improve health and healthcare with design of the environment.

Now in its eighth year, Leading by Design is an applied research project that is currently working with 13 active case studies in 5 countries to operationalize and document the universal benefits of its findings.

A description of Leading by Design follows, which serves to answer many of the frequently asked questions about the project.  Five participant case studies follow this description.  When additional case studies are prepared and made available by the participants, they will be added to this site.
