The CARITAS Project seeks to identify and recognize health and healthcare settings—from around the world—where the focus is on improving human health through innovative design of the environment and as a result, individuals, organizations, and communities flourish. Recognition of the environment as a tool to improve health and healthcare is well established, but a new paradigm in health and healthcare is emerging, and “generative space” is advancing this new paradigm. Generative space incorporates the knowledge, experience, and best practices accumulated in the mainstream healthcare industry, but takes it to the next level. Generative space builds on improvements in health and healthcare settings to date and moves toward an approach to environmental design that enables individuals to flourish in their communities. Generative space utilizes transdisciplinary collaboration to integrate the physical and social sciences; academic research and professional practice; and the health, healthcare, and environmental design-related industries to produce systemic and sustainable improvements. This award provides a new platform to recognize and celebrate beacon projects that can credibly document being a place to flourish. The CARITAS Project has initiated the call for entries for this new award. The CARITAS Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to pioneering the next generation of improvements in health and healthcare delivery through innovative design of the environment.
